Currently, Flint Hills Resources (formerly Hawkeye Renewables) has two plant locations in operation and two under construction. An expansion completed in March of 2006 doubled the capacity of the Iowa Falls, Iowa location from the originally constructed 50 million gallons per year plant to a 100 million gallon per year plant. Construction of a 115 million gallon per year plant was completed in May of 2006 and is in operation near Fairbank, Iowa. Currently, there is a 110 million gallon per year plant under construction near Menlo, Iowa as well as a 110 million gallon per year plant under construction near Shell Rock, IA. Once all four are operational, Flint Hills (formerly Hawkeye) will be the largest ethanol producer in Iowa and the fourth largest in the U.S.
