The Long-Term Recovery Process – Avoid the Pitfalls and Come Out Stronger
Whether it is a loss of jobs with localized layoffs, a natural disaster like a tornado or flood, or the COVID-19 pandemic, economic development professionals will face challenges. This session will identify common pitfalls to avoid and provide building blocks to help navigate through response, reopening, and long-term recovery.

This session is formatted to respond to the unique concerns and challenges of our Iowa audience. We are gathering participant questions in advance and will have Kirsten respond to the most asked and provocative questions during the session. She will provide guidance to help you lead organizations, businesses, and communities through this ever-changing COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges that may come your way.

Kirsten McGregor is the Principal and Founder of SAGAX Associates, an Economic Recovery and Development Consulting firm supporting governments, nonprofit organizations, public-private partnerships, and businesses respond to and prepare for economic disruptions and disasters. 

Major Economic Recovery/Development assignments include Senior Policy Advisor on President Obama’s Hurricane Sandy Task Force, Lead Economic Recovery Coordinator Consultant for the US Virgin Islands Hurricanes Irma and Maria Recovery, Lead Economic Recovery Coordinator through US Department of Commerce and FEMA for Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Recovery, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Coordinator US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, Deputy Director of the Delaware Economic Development Office, Founder and Executive Director of Open Bracket Delaware.  

Kirsten is a Senior Fellow at the University of Delaware Joseph Biden School of Public Policy and Administration Institute of Public Administration to support their new “Recover Delaware” initiative. Two months in a row, Kirsten has been recognized by Thinkers360 as one of the top 50 international thought leaders on COVID 19. In 2018, Kirsten was recognized by Delaware Today magazine as a leading woman in business in Delaware. Kirsten graduated with departmental honors with a Government concentration from Franklin & Marshall College (Lancaster, PA) and has a Master of City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, PA) with a concentration on economic development. She is certified in Commercial Real Estate Development by the Urban Land Institute, and she studied comparative politics and policy at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
