Farmland Industries, Inc. was founded in 1929 as the Union Oil Company. The nitrogen fertilizer plant in Fort Dodge was built in 1967. Last year Farmland announced plans for a major expansion of the Fort Dodge facility. the original 600 tons per day ammonia plant is expanding to 1,100 tons per day capacity and a new 1,500 tons per day nitrogen solution plant is being constructed.
