IADG Members Capture $1.1 Million USDA Financing for Projects The new U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that utilities in 13 states have been selected to receive $18.1 million through USDA Rural Development's Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program. Iowa Area Development Group is pleased to report that two of those awards have been approved for IADG members and their projects.  Grundy County REC received at $454,000 loan from USDA to facilitate the construction of a 6,200 sq.ft. building to be leased to the Hawkeye Community College (HCC) as a satellite campus. Cardinal Construction will build and own the facility and lease it back to the community college. The purpose of the facility will be to allow HCC to expand its “Project Lead the Way” and other educational programming to meet the math, science and other needs of the high school students from three rural school districts in the region. The facility will be located in the Grundy County Industrial Park near the U.S. 20 and Hwy. 14 intersection about 25 miles west of Waterloo. Central Iowa Power Cooperative received a $700,000 loan from USDA to assist the development of a new grocery store in Cascade, Iowa. K&L Foods Grocery based in Sigourney has reached an agreement with the City of Cascade to purchase a commercial lot in town for the purposes of building a new 10,000 sq.ft. grocery store in the community.
